Here is what Katherine had to say about her art when she sat down with Type One.
T1: When did you begin to draw?
Katherine: I’ve always enjoyed art since I was younger. I started to develop even more skills in middle school, but I started producing some of my best work last year.
T1: Are you taking any art class this year? What are you most looking forward to in this class?
Katherine: This year I’m taking Drawing and Painting AP. I’m really looking forward to seeing the end product of my portfolio with all 24 pieces (12 breadth and 12 concentration).
T1: What inspires you to create?
Katherine: Ordinary objects inspire me to create. Sometimes I’ll also see a certain style or medium, and I’ll want to try it out.
T1: Is there any specific way you would describe your artistic style?
Katherine: I usually focus on an object or person with details, shadows, highlights, and color. For the types of things I draw, colored pencil is the best medium.
T1: Is there any famous artists whose style you draw from?
Katherine: No, I never really have a certain artist’s style in mind. The only thing I’ve ever really modeled after an artist was for a project last year when we had to replicate a famous painting.
T1: Of the pieces you submitted which one was the most challenging for you?
Katherine: The feet in water drawing was definitely the most challenging. The water background was very detailed and took a really long time.

T1: Which is your favorite?
Katherine: I don’t have a specific piece that is my favorite. I really like the leaf with water droplets because it was the first prismacolor drawing I ever created. From then on, it became my favorite medium.
