It is almost February and spring sports are starting soon. Many Panthers are excited to try out for the Varsity tennis team this year.

“Tennis is my favorite sport, and I am very excited to tryout and to hopefully be on the tennis team in the coming weeks,” said Michael Ricotta ’26.

Tryouts started on January 17th and will continue until early February. The team will then meet for practice on Mondays and for matches. Players can either train at Pine Crest after school during weekdays or train with a coach outside of school.

“I’m excited for matches to start this year because it’s a lot of fun getting to support my teammates,” said Maya Heyman ’24, who was on Girls’ Varsity last year and will continue playing this year.

In the 2021-2022 season, both the Girls’ and Boys’ Varsity did very well. Boys’ Varsity won the state championship, and Girls’ Varsity made it to the state semifinals.

“Tennis is a very individual sport, but being on a team can make it more fun and less pressure,” said Michaela Landry ‘23, who was ranked #1 on the Girl’s Varsity Team last year. “I think for every season I am just looking forward to the team aspect.”

Both teams had incredible seasons last year, and we are lucky to have the majority of our team returning this year. We hope to build on our success from the previous years,” said Coach Corey Marsh, the Head Coach of Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity.

Paw Print wishes the tennis teams the best as they head into their 2023 season.
