The 54th Annual Grammy’s: A Night to Remember

On Sunday February 12, 2012 the 54th annual Grammy’s were held.  Due to the recent success of Adele’s many hit singles, she impressed and added to the wonderful night. In 2011, she released her second album, 21. This album included several hits such as “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You”. She had six nominations and took home the award for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year.  Kanye West took home four awards for best rap album Watch the Throne, best rap/sung collaboration with Jay-Z, best rap song, and best rap performance. The nominations for Record of the Year included “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele, “Holocene” by Bon Iver, “Grenade” by Bruno Mars, “The Cave” by Mumford and Sons, and “Firework” by Katy Perry. The nominations for Album of the Year included 21 by Adele, Wasting Light by the Foo Fighters, Born this Way by Lady Gaga, Doo-Wops & Hooligans by Bruno Mars, and Loud by Rihanna.

Not only do the Grammy’s give out awards, but each year there is a special performance which consists of collaboration between several different, talented artists. Last year, Mumford and Sons, the Avett Brothers, and Bob Dylan performed together. This year, there was a special performance from the Beach Boys. Maroon 5 and Foster the People joined them.  Other performers included Deadmau5, Jennifer Hudson, Coldplay and Rihanna, David Guetta, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Kelly Clarkson, and Taylor Swift. Adele also performed for the first time since her vocal surgery.
