Homecoming 2016 was a fun and memorable time at Pine Crest. If there were to be a “Spirit Kit” to commemorate the week of festivities, what would be in it? [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]

A Football: Thursday afternoon the senior and junior girls faced off in a flag football game on Banks Field. Both teams put up a great fight, so neither was able to make it to the end zone, causing the game to go into overtime. During overtime, each team got one chance at a possession to score, and whichever did so would win. The seniors went first and Carly Feldman threw to Kylie DiCarolis for a touchdown, which meant the juniors would have to score on this possession or the win would go to the seniors. The juniors did not manage to score, and the seniors won the game 6-0. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]

Streamers: Throughout the day on Wednesday, each grade had the opportunity to decorate the different hallways with their class colors. The students worked tirelessly to cover their wing in their class color and win spirit points for this event. With the theme of “A Starry Night,” the seniors got first place for the best hallway. Coming in second with a fire-themed hallway were the juniors. The freshmen followed in third with their all out orange hallway. In last place, were the sophomores who decorated their hallway from floor to ceiling in yellow. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]

Bubble Gum: Wednesday afternoon, hundreds of students and faculty gathered around the Circle to watch their peers and teachers compete in different competitions. Some of the events included a pudding eating contest, a Jello eating contest, a whipped cream and bubblegum blowing contest, a water balloon toss, an Oreo face challenge, and a watermelon eating contest. “I enjoyed all the school activities such as the watermelon eating contest because the energy was very high and everyone was involved,” shared freshman Jared Gould. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]

Microphone: Wednesday night at 6 o’clock, students, parents, friends, and family gathered at Stacy Auditorium to watch Playing for Change. Playing for Change is a charity concert run by the students. This year all proceeds from the concert went to Funding Arts Broward. Prior to the performance, junior and Playing for Change performer, Rodrigo Torrejon explained what he was excited about, “I’m excited to see the students who aren’t usually involved in fine arts perform, and I think Playing for Change is a great opportunity for this.” [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]

Cereal: Throughout the past week or so, students have had the opportunity to bring in cereal boxes that were being raised, quite literally, for charity. With these cereal boxes, each grade built something with the boxes they collected. This event, called Cerealstruction, was held on Wednesday afternoon. Each grade had a group of students who were in charge of coming up with an idea and building it.  One of the contributors junior Alison Schwartz said, “Cerealstruction was fun…and I feel my support contributed a lot.” The juniors came in second place behind the seniors who built a skyline with their 219 boxes. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]

Spirit Stick: Finally, and most importantly, the Spirit Stick. At the football game against St. Andrews School on Friday night, the winner of this year’s Homecoming was announced. The seniors won the Spirit Stick this year and can leave this campus in the spring knowing they were “legen17ary.”
