The Pine Crest Football team posted a 3-1 record through four games and most recently dominated Florida Christian 53-0.  Everyone on the team is hopeful about the rest of this season; they are especially excited for the homecoming game against Saint Andrews on Friday, September 30.[spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]

The team has been training since the spring and had grueling strength and conditioning workouts everyday over the summer. Now that the season is in full swing, players are excited to see where this season goes, as they all share the ultimate goal of winning the SFC championship. Senior Captain, lineman (and human tank) Arjun Sandhu shares the work that he has been putting into his football career.[spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]

“I started preparing for the season the day after last season ended,” Sandhu said. “I seriously started lifting weights in eighth grade, stayed dedicated and worked hard every year to get bigger and stronger.”[spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]

As a lineman, Sandhu does not receive the same attention as do receivers, running backs or quarterbacks because they do not score touchdowns.[spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]

“Being a lineman, we don’t get the fun of rushing for touchdowns or catching a pass for a first down, but without us, those guys wouldn’t be able to make those plays. We give 100% effort to give our quarterback enough time to find a receiver, as well as making a hole for our running back to run through. We don’t get the fancy stats, but at the end of the game it just matters who won – so we are happy with what we do,” Sandhu said. True selflessness.[spacer height=”5px” id=”3″]

Another senior and leader on the field is quarterback Jordan Schulefand. He began playing football ten years ago when his father realized he had a special arm. Having been on varsity for three years, Jordan is experienced, comfortable, and confident when  playing. He wants everyone to come out for their next game on Friday, September 30. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]

“I think it will be an electric atmosphere in our big rivalry game against Saint Andrews. I promise you it will be a great game, and we will play it with a ton of heart and passion, and I guarantee a victory one-hundred percent. Please come out and support us, we really would appreciate it,” Schulefand said. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]

Homecoming week reaches its peak of spirit on Friday, September 30. During the day, students will enjoy a pep rally where they will meet the cheerleaders and football players. Then there is a tailgate at West Campus starting at 5 PM. Following the festivities, the football game will be on Best Field at 7 PM. Everyone should come out to watch and support the Panthers in this rivalry game. Good luck to the football players this season.
