Pine Crest Football Team: A Historic Season

PC football has come back with a bang! The team has been working hard, and the players’ efforts have paid off, being the first undefeated football season in Pine Crest’s history.

Practicing on the field and in the weight room, as well as watching and analyzing film, the team has made great improvements. The team’s state ranking moved up 85 spots, and their record improved from a 4-5 record in 2019-2020 to an impressive 4-0 record this year.

The team has managed to keep improving and working hard despite the difficulties presented to them. Some team members participating in online learning haven’t had access to the weight room and others haven’t been able to practice due to concerns over COVID-19. None of this stopped them though, and all members of the team found creative solutions to get in their practice and their reps.

All of this practice and build up ended in leading the team to a heroic win in the homecoming game, with their stunning 21-0 victory over LaSalle.

Varsity football player David Maschler ‘23 told Paw Print, “We had a really well-rounded team that just clicked and played well together.”

Stefan Awaida ‘23, another varsity football player, talked to Paw Print about how the team views the homecoming experience.

“Homecoming week is one of the best weeks all year! The homecoming game brings out the spirit of the entire school and it’s great to see the school behind the team and all the hard work we put in.”

With such a dedicated team full of hard-working and talented players, many Pine Crest students are sad to see the football season end so soon after it began. Although 10 seniors will be leaving the team next year, talented underclassmen such as Jacob Pion, Stefan Awaida, and David Maschler will work to continue the team’s success into next year’s season.
