The new year means new goals as many people strive to start the new year off better than the previous year. However, according to a milestone study from the University of Scranton, 77% of people who committed to a New Year’s resolution stayed with it for only one week, and only 4% of people who made New Year’s resolution last year kept them, according to a survey by Statista. While many people have good intentions to make better choices in the new year, most quickly encounter obstacles preventing them from achieving their goals. Here are a few simple tips that will help guide you to successfully achieve your New Year’s resolutions.

Keep it simple

You want to start with a goal that is realistic in order to ensure it can be accomplished. People often find themselves unable to reach or complete their goal because it is unrealistic or unattainable.  By starting small you will find yourself pleased with the results of a successful New Year’s goal.

Take it one step at a time

Regardless of whether you have a simple goal, or a dramatic life-changing goal, the key to success is time and patience. Aim to take it slow and accomplish one short term goal at a time to prevent yourself from becoming overwhelmed and pessimistic.

Create a time-frame

A time-frame will boost your motivation; you will work harder and put greater dedication into your effort when you know that there is a deadline. Plan your actions accordingly to ensure that you will be able to reach your goal within the set time.

Receive Support

In order to be successful, it is crucial you tell people about your resolution. By involving your friends, family, or those you trust, they will help keep you motivated and remind you why you initially chose this resolution.

Reward Yourself

It is vital that you take a moment to recognize your accomplishments and all the successes in your life. Obtaining your New Year’s resolution can be a difficult task; it is necessary that you acknowledge all of your hard work and treat yourself to a reward. In addition, planning rewards for yourself will motivate you to continue working hard.

Hopefully these tips will lead you on the path to success and help you fulfill your New Year’s resolution. Good luck!
