The midterm elections took place this November and the polls were extremely close. In the final national results of the elections, the Republican Party took control of the Senate beating the Democrats 51 to 46. In addition, usually the party not in control performs better during the midterm election and this occurred as the Democrats took control of the House of Representatives, 225 to 200.

In Florida, Bill Nelson faced a very intimidating election for the Senate by running in a state that President Trump won in his 2016 election and by running against Rick Scott who has been a strong and vocal supporter for Trump. Scott won the Senate with 50.1% of votes while Nelson received 49.9%. Floridians also had to vote for 27 House seats, 11 of which will be filled by Democrats. Furthermore, the gubernatorial election for Florida rendered Ron DeSantis from the Republican party the winner with 49.6% of votes, while his opponent from the Democratic Party, Andrew Gillum, received 49.2%.

It was a very intense race; everyone was determined and motivated during their campaigns to win for their party. The next midterm election will take place in another four years after the presidential election in 2020.
