Pine Crest Girls Soccer Sets Sights On Regionals

Last Tuesday, January 23, the Pine Crest Girls’ Soccer Team faced off against FAU High in the district semifinal game. Earlier in the season, the girls lost to FAU High by a score of 2-1, and they were determined to win the rematch. Pine Crest took the game 4-1 and moved on to play at Cardinal Gibbons on Friday, January 26th.

Gibbons is one of Pine Crest’s biggest rivals in every sport, but the girls soccer teams have an especially deep rivalry. 2 years ago, Pine Crest beat Gibbons on their own field in the district finals. The two teams met again in regionals, when Pine Crest ended Cardinal Gibbons’ season with a big win at home.

This year, Gibbons extended the rivalry and took down Pine Crest 5-1 in the district finals, but both teams advanced to regional competition.

On Tuesday, February 6th at 7 PM, the girls will be playing at Oxbridge in the regional quarterfinals. Oxbridge is a very tough opponent and defending state champions, so it would be awesome to have a huge crowd go out and support the team for this game.

“We’re going into this game eager to come out on top because it would be amazing to beat the former state champs and so we can face Gibbons once more.” said senior captain Ana Simon.

If Pine Crest beats Oxbridge and Gibbons beats Benjamin, the two teams will have a rematch in what will most likely be a very exciting game. Before any of that happens, Pine Crest must face Oxbridge, and the girls love when the fans come out to support them.

Junior forward and center-mid Natalie Klar said, “Having fans helps motivate us and encourage us to play our best for our school. It brings a positive atmosphere that can help translate to our play on the field.”  Please come out and support the Pine Crest Girls Soccer Team at Oxbridge on Tuesday, February 6th at 7:00 P.M.
