Bonjour, mes lecteurs! Miss. Aurelie Cressin, the new Upper School French teacher at Pine Crest, moved to Florida two months ago. Coming from a small town in Massachusetts where she taught at an all-girls boarding school for 17 years, she took the opportunity to be a part of the new teaching opportunity here at Pine Crest.
Miss. Cressin was born and raised in Le Mans, France. She studied German, Russian, Spanish, and English in high school and was already fluent in French. The humanities including cultural anthropology and world languages had always been her main interests. She started teaching French at the University of Arkansas as a graduate student. Subsequently, she obtained her Master’s degree in education and soon recognized her affinity for teaching.
She said, “Seeing the growth of the students who came to me without knowing a word of French and seeing how much they learn and grow is truly gratifying.” Students who began their journey thinking they could never master the language ultimately were able to have intelligent discussions about themes such as human rights and climate change in French. Seeing her students’ progression and confidence with the language never gets old for her, even after all of her years of teaching.
In addition to her scholarly credentials, Miss. Cressin is also an accomplished athlete, having been a member of the national youth track team back in France. She plans to travel to France next summer to see the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Staying connected with her old friends from Massachusetts as well as enjoying her new friends is something Miss. Cressin prioritizes during her free time. She emphasizes communication and nurturing connections, which is reflected in the way she approaches her advisory class.
Considering she has traveled to over 60 countries as well as every state but 3, it is safe to say that traveling is her passion. You will see her on the beach, at music festivals, and maybe at her next travel destination which is yet to be determined. Until then, you can find her in the French room. A bientôt!
