Art Spotlight
With the deadline less than two months away, the Art AP students are hard at work while creating over twenty pieces that are required of their portfolio. Trying to avoid the notorious late night art-a-thons that have become synonymous with “the AP experience,” most students have avoided the fatal procrastination that has plagued art students for years.
Check out the pictures below to see some examples of the AP students’ artwork:
Desert Wasteland by Max Cohen
Using Photoshop CS5, Max took multiple pictures and did a digital manipulation to combine them into this piece. He wanted to make a piece that illustrated the idea that in the universe, a single person is much smaller than he wants to believe. Having a person on the moon looking back and reflecting on the world, the artwork is meant to convey the idea that each person is a small piece of a larger puzzle.
Isa Riquezes
Using thread and watercolor, Isa was inspired by Frida Kahlo’s artwork and personality. She added a more vibrant feel encouraged by the tropical environment of Florida and her home country, Venezuela.
Gigi Falk
Gigi’s inspiration was that she wanted to combine two unlikely animals that were also somewhat compatible. She thought a unique way to do that was to replace a key characteristic of one animal with a major characteristic of another. Because elephants have very recognizable ears and butterflies are known for the colorful wings, she decided to create an elephant that had butterfly wings in place of ears using acrylic paint. Her goal was that someone looking at this could clearly see not only two individual animals but also one unified being.
Andrea Levy
Using pastels, Andrea’s goal was to take an iconic piece of art and use it to show voluntary self change.
Ali Corominas
Ali’s inspiration was to show her uncle’s hands with his grandson’s tiny feet. She used graphite to create her artwork.
