One of my absolute favorite bands from the twenty-first century, the Paper Kites, just released their sophomore album this past Friday. This indie-folk band from Melbourne, Australia, definitely changed up their sound in their second album, twelvefour. The new album displays the band members’ ability to express a poetic story full of sound and color. The band’s first album, Woodland, is more of a classic folk, singer-songwriter album, whereas twelvefour shows the evolution of the band towards a more electric sound.
Both albums are of excellent music quality, but if you are more of an electric guitar, acoustic person, I think you will really enjoy the new sound of the band. The five members of the band recorded the new album in Seattle in March. The band members became inspired in the middle of the night from twelve to four a.m. and they even named their album after this. The new and delicate album expresses the ideals of the band itself: effortless storytelling of emotions and graceful moments of synth genius.
Please give the Paper Kites a chance even if you aren’t really into the typical “indie-folk” sound. I promise they are an awesome band; perfect for a rainy afternoon, studying, or just a lazy Sunday morning of relaxation. If you are into vinyl records, the album is coming out for sale shortly, so I recommend picking one up. The band is based in Australia, so most of their tours are around that area, but they are actually having a USA tour for the first time ever. No stops in Florida, or anywhere in the South for that matter, but if you are in the Chicago, New York, or Pennsylvania areas near the end of this year, definitely check them out in concert.
