Here is what Anya had to say about her work when she sat down with Type One.
T1: When did you begin to draw?
Anya: I took my first art class when I was in kindergarten, and I’ve been taking them ever since.
T1: Are you taking any art class this year? What are you most looking forward to in this class?
Anya: I’m taking Studio Art AP, and I’m really looking forward to doing my concentration and being able to expand on my personal style this year.
T1: What inspires you to create?
Anya: Creating art has always been a way to express myself in ways that people normally couldn’t, and I think that freedom to do whatever you want inspires me to do art.
T1: Is there any specific way you would describe your artistic style?
Anya: I don’t usually make things lifelike; instead, I love to make surrealistic art.
T1: Are there any famous artists whose style you draw from?
Anya: The impressionists, especially Monet because he didn’t really stick to defined lines but instead made these like blurry images by painting freely.

T1: Of the pieces you submitted which one was the most challenging for you?
Anya: The girl who’s like throwing up and crying gold because I used this technique called “stippling,” where you basically draw the picture using dots. It was the first time I’ve ever done stippling, and needless to say, it took me forever and was very difficult.

T1: Which is your favorite?
Anya: My favorite piece is probably the skull with the vines. I really liked how the vines or roots (or whatever they are) turned out, and I liked how the pens made the whole piece very black and white and sharp.
