With the different honor societies available here at Pine Crest, it is easy for organizations to fade into the background, but the National English Honor Society (NEHS) has made it clear that the Pine Crest NEHS intends to stand out this year.
The National English Honor Society (NEHS) is an organization that recognizes students from all over the country who display excellence in the field of English. Pine Crest is very proud to be a part of such a prestigious organization. This past Tuesday, the club held its induction for the 2014-2015 school year. The ceremony began with a brief introduction from the club sponsor, Mr. Gillego, who turned over the ceremony to the Pine Crest Chapter President and Senior, Rachel Cagnetta. Rachel stressed the importance of leadership within the club.
Not surprisingly, many students took her words to heart. Anya Volter, a junior and new inductee of NEHS, said “I really am excited about participating in all the new opportunities that come with being in a society like NEHS.”
Before the close of the ceremony, the new members received a formal NEHS certificate and a white carnation flower, which is symbolic of distinction and truth. The students then headed to their classes with bagels and donuts, provided by the NEHS for the induction, in hand.
The Pine Crest NEHS Treasurer, Senior Marissa Radensky, plans to get a lot of participation from the incoming members. She stated, “I am most excited about the group getting involved with the school and the local community.”
The Secretary of PC NEHS, Yael Lederman, also believes the club will have an eventful year. “This year, I think we will be more hands on in the community, and we have a lot of fun events planned,” she commented. Yael specifically mentioned the PC NEHS sponsored Youth TEDx Talk, scheduled to take place February 27th, as an exciting event to look forward to.
The induction ceremony made it clear that the Pine Crest chapter of the NEHS plans to make this year a memorable one full of NEHS sponsored events. Keep your radar on for more NEHS events to come!
