On Saturday, January 17th, the Pine Crest School Geography Club took a trip to Epcot in Walt Disney World. The Geography Club members proposed this idea in the beginning of the year, thinking it could be a wonderful opportunity to “travel around the world.” Epcot has eleven countries, differing from Japan to Italy and Morocco to Norway. The club thought that the trip would be a great way to learn about many different countries in an exciting, fun, and interesting way. The group consisted of Geography Club members and chaperones Mr. Snyder, Mrs. Carbanero, and Coach Hop. The bus pulled out of Pine Crest Ft. Lauderdale at around 6:00 in the morning and arrived in Orlando by 9:30. Once it hit ten o’clock, the Geography Club was officially in the park and eager to explore.
The day consisted of hanging out with friends, traveling around the “world,” eating amazing food, and going on awesome rides. Students also had the opportunity to do the Epcot Scavenger Hunt. The Scavenger Hunt gave students the opportunity to become completely immersed in the different cultures and learn about each country in a unique, authentic way. When asked about what he expected the goal of the trip was, Mr. Snyder replied, “Our goal of the trip was to have a bonding experience for the Club, and to appreciate the other cultures of the world.” He also stated that, “I want the members to have the desire to learn about the world around us on their own.” Mr. Snyder believes that since this year’s trip was such a success that hopefully even more students will sign up next year. He replied that he hopes students will use the trip and other activities, such as the upcoming Geo-History Bee, as ways to create more enthusiasm in not only the Geography Club, but also geography in general.
