“Everybody get off the floor and jump!” shouted Josh Franceschi, You Me At Six’s vocalist, before heading straight into the song “Reckless.” The English band is a wild hit back home, where most people know them from songs on the radio and mainstage performances at the Reading and Leeds festival. Here in the US, the band is rapidly gaining a large fan-base. For the past couple of weeks, You Me At Six has been touring around the country to promote their new album, Cavalier Youth. The album came out this January and has topped UK charts with its unique pop-punk sound. This past Wednesday, the band came to Revolution Live for the first time since their album release.
The intimate show began with the woman-fronted band, Stars in Stereo. The LA-based band got the crowd going with heavy guitar riffs and catchy songs like “Echo and “Leave Your Mark.” Although the band is relatively new with only two albums, concertgoers instantly jumped and sang along. With influences such as Blink-182 and U2, it is easy to see why many enjoyed their music.
Out next came Young Guns. Much of the crowd knew their music and cheered when they came on stage. The band shook the venue with their opening song, pumping up the crowd for more to come. After a few more songs, including the title track off their first album, “Bones,” lead singer Gustav Wood jumped off the stage and into the crowd. The band finished off their set with strobe lighting as the atmosphere intensified waiting for the main act.
A little later in the evening, You Me at Six graced the stage, and the crowd went nuts as the band started with their first track of the night, “Too Young To Feel This Old.” The pack of dedicated fans sang along to every song–even ones such as “Underdog” and “Loverboy” from older albums Sinners Never Sleep and Hold Me Down.
Later that night, the concert reached its pinnacle when lead singer Franceschi walked off the stage and into the mosh pit. The crowd swarmed around him as he screamed the lyrics to “Bite My Tongue,” and despite the lack of room, he looked genuinely excited to see such enthusiastic fans so far away from his home country. The concert ended with the newly-famous song “Lived A Lie” off of Cavalier Youth. The band then thanked the crowd for being so passionate about the music scene and promised to come back soon.
The crowd was extremely excited to see the band, and You Me At Six lived up to the hype with an entertaining and well-played set of songs. For a small, Wednesday night show, things sure did get rowdy.
