Every morning, students, teachers, and parents from Aventura, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Miami, and everywhere in between embark on the early morning commute to Pine Crest School. In the mornings, these drivers are forced to experience the nightmare that is the Cypress Creek Road line.
There is only one lane on this road that allows all drivers access to the PC parking garage, drop-off area, and West Campus. Waiting for the line of cars to move inch by inch each day has become extremely irritating to drivers. Not only does the line progress at an excruciatingly slow rate on a daily basis, but the line of cars backs up for miles with the passing of a train. Furthermore, while waiting for what seems like forever, drivers must suffer the blinding sunrise of South Florida, as the road directly faces the east coast.
But that’s not the worst part. Many morning drivers find it acceptable to cheat the system. Pine Crest junior Max Popkin said, “I drive to school from Boca Raton every morning on I-95, which takes long enough. Having to sit in line on Cypress and put up with people who cut me off puts me in the worst mood.”
While the majority of drivers patiently wait their turn, some drivers rudely cut in front of many cars in order to skip the wait. These drivers deceptively cut into the adjacent lanes and then finally make their wrongful move. Everyone ultimately has to arrive on time for an early morning meeting, a first period test, or simply to get breakfast from the Student Store.
Lauren Adkins, a senior from Boca Raton, became upset the moment that she heard about these “cutters,” replying, “I think it is extremely rude when a parent or student cuts the line. Nobody is more privileged than anyone else on the road and it puts all drivers in danger.”
Although it certainly seems rude to cut the line on Cypress Creek Road, there is certainly an argument that the action is sometimes justified. Junior Austin Nero explained, “If you are running late and have a legitimate reason to cut the line, it is not that bad. For instance, if someone is running late on a Tuesday, I would let them cut because if I was running late on Wednesday, I would want the return of favor.” In addition, switching into lanes is a normal part of everyday driving so maybe the cutting is just overblown.
Despite the argument that cutting may be justified at time, overall it is not right. Not only is the sneaky move an ignorant one, but cutting off drivers is also dangerous. These “cutters” sneak up in front of other cars and cunningly cut them off which could cause a serious accident. Be considerate, careful, and most importantly patient while driving to school in the morning.
