Summertime is all about trying new things. With the varying lists of destinations that Pine Crest students and faculty traveled to this summer, it wasn’t hard to find out about some of the food trends the PC community enjoyed. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
With all of its hustle and bustle, New York City is a favorite summer destination for many Pine Crest students. Every street corner in this metropolitan area has something new to offer when it comes food and drinks. Senior Drisha Gwalani explains how her boba tea obsession came about as a result of the scorching New York heat. “The amount of boba tea I had this summer is crazy! When I was in New York, I would get boba tea from a street cart every day. It was the perfect cool down! I like how there are so many flavors to choose from.” Boba tea, also known as bubble tea, is a taiwanese tea-based drink that consists of chewy tapioca balls and a fruit or milk base. Although boba tea is becoming increasingly popular, its peculiar nature is not as preferable to some as is classic ice cream. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
However, there is nothing classic about the new craze that is rolled ice cream. Seen all over Instagram, this ice cream trend is exactly what it sounds like: ice cream that is rolled in narrow tubes and then decorated with crazy toppings. Junior Isabella Alvarez raves about the rolled ice cream she tried this summer. “You have to try the rolled ice cream at 10Below in New York! The designs are so cool and the ice cream is even better,” she said. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
While some students discovered summer food trends around the country, others explored the trends in our back yard. This summer, freshman Megan McGinn joined her friends on a visit to Miami’s Barton G. Megan describes Barton G as “one of the trendiest restaurants in South Florida, as it’s a great restaurant to dine at on a summer night. The decorations and presentation of the food are unique and cool!” A few of her meal highlights were “the popcorn shrimp, which came in a popcorn bucket, and the mac and cheese, which came on a mousetrap display.” [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
But, it wasn’t just students who experienced new food trends this summer. Pine Crest’s Government and Politics teacher, Mrs. Bass raves about Myapapaya Juicery and Kitchen in Fort Lauderdale. “After hearing about Myapapaya from students, I decided to give it a chance. I love all the different items on the menu, and it’s a perfect place to meet friends who have vegan and vegetarian preferences!” English teacher Ms. Jenkins satisfied her maple cravings this summer during her venture to Canada, where she discovered the world of Tim Hortons, a coffee shop similar to Dunkin Donuts. “This summer, I tried everything maple-flavored possible. Maple coffee, maple treats; you name it. I love the maple trend!” [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
Whether it was 1370 miles away or right down the street, members of the PC community explored the exciting new food, drink, and restaurant trends this summer.
