One of the most anticipated events in the automobile industry is the Geneva International Motor Show, which takes places annually in Geneva, Switzerland. Known for its prestige and overwhelming importance to car manufactures, this year’s show has truly matched its expectations. With more than 250 exhibitors, including famous German carmaker Mercedes-Benz and Italian luxury carmaker Bugatti, and thousands of visitors each day, the Geneva Motor Show provides auto enthusiasts an opportunity to get a glimpse at the newest models and concept cars in the automotive world.
This year, several car manufactures, including BMW and Mercedes-Benz, presented a new range of models during the annual motor show. Mercedes-Benz, for example, unveiled a new addition to its model lineup: the midsize C-class convertible. Featuring an expansive infotainment system and avant-garde design, the new convertible combines uniqueness, quality and performance. In the luxury car sector, British car manufacturer Rolls-Royce released its first “Black Badge” series of premium models that focuses on attracting younger customers. According to Rolls-Royce CEO, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, this new series is the “alter ego of Rolls-Royce Wraith and Ghost” and it is even “more confident and powerful” than its predecessors. Rolls-Royce’s parent company, BMW, also gave customers and visitors a glimpse at the new 7 series sedan. With its modern and sleek design, the new luxury sedan will now compete with well-known models, such as Mercedes-Benz’s S class and Lexus’s LS.
In addition to the luxury sedans, several race-car manufactures, such as British automaker Aston Martin and Italian automaker Bugatti, released new performance models that had been much-anticipated within the community and were covered by international news media. With its contemporary and powerful features, Aston Martin’s new DB11 sets an unparalleled benchmark for high-performance vehicles that are both fast and comfortable. It houses a twin-turbo V12 motor and has adopted some design elements from the DB10 concept car, which was driven by Daniel Craig in the James Bond movie Spectre (2015). Moreover, Aston Martin’s CEO, Andy Palmer, noted that the DB11 is “the most important car in the firm’s 103-year existence.” In addition to the DB11, Italian automaker Bugatti premiered the first-ever Chiron. Dubbed the “world’s fastest road car“, the successor of the Bugatti Veyron has a 1500 horsepower engine that can reach a top speed of 420 km/h. Not only does the new Chiron reach a high speed, but also has a high price tag with a MSRP of nearly $2.6 million.
With its impressive range of exhibitors, car-manufactures and vehicles, the 86th Geneva International Motor Show is truly a fascinating arena for car enthusiasts and automakers alike.
