Josh Gordon has had his fair share of incidents over the course of his NFL career. This offseason, Gordon was arrested for driving while impaired in North Carolina in July, and a month later would acknowledge that the NFL had suspended him for an entire year for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. Fortunately for Cleveland, Gordon’s suspension was reduced to 10 games as a result of the new NFL drug policy.
Perfect timing.
The Cleveland Browns have surprised many this season with a 6-4 record after the first 10 weeks, putting them in serious position for the AFC playoff bracket. Adding one of the most talented players in the league who has come off a season in which he led the NFL in receiving yards will only help the Browns’ odds of making the playoffs. The organization has not accomplished this since 2002.
Gordon’s teammates were excited for his return and how it would add to their receiving core.
“Scary,” said Browns receiver Travis Benjamin, “Hands down we have the fastest receiving corps in the league as we see it. We can’t wait to get back out there and put on a show Sunday against the Falcons.”
“Explosive. Explosive. Explosive,” Browns receiver Taylor Gabriel said, “It’s going to be fun.”
On the other side of the spectrum, Atlanta Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant, who covered Josh Gordon in this past Sunday’s matchup between the Browns and the Falcons, commented on his matchup.
“He’s legit,” Trufant said, “I just have to bring my A-game. I look at what they’re good at, I look at what they’re not good at, and I try to exploit that. I look at other corners that had success against that receiver. And I look at myself and am real about what I’m able to do. I’m just going to go into it just like any other game: confident in my technique, first. And I’m going to be all right.”
Many experts believe Gordon will continue his greatness this week, as he is expected to play about 30 snaps. The Browns are surely happy to have him back, and many will be watching this week’s matchup.
