Sadie Hawkins

As if society hasn’t made being a teenage girl awkward enough, the PC student council has somehow found a way to magnify our deepest insecurities.  Waiting around for a boy to ask you to prom is one thing, but having to ask a boy yourself is a whole different ballpark.  We can’t all play it cool like senior Julia Pineyro and be the first ask of the season.  Lucky for her, teen hottie, Ben Silver, accepted her request, but not all of us get that lucky.  The term Sadie Hawkins was first coined by a comic called Lil’ Abner; many of us learned about the dance from an episode of Lizzie McGuire.  We all remember Lizzie and her schizophrenic tendencies. Clearly I’m referring to the talking cartoon inside her head.  Her best friend and eventual lover’s name also translated into “fatty” in Spanish, but that’s a story for another day.  My point being that we all looked up to Lizzie at one point, and if she survived Sadie Hawkins so can we girls.  In fact, even the NEW Jordan Danzansky was able to score a date with the one and only Sam Shafer.  Lucky for everyone, StuCo has taken a more subtle approach to organizing the dance. Ping Pong tables SCREAM casual. So girls, relax because if he says no, ON TO THE NEXT ONE.
