The Lady Panthers’ Soccer Team is back, and they’ve started their year with a bang. The first three weeks of the season have been fantastic for the girls’ soccer team. So far, the Varsity team sits at first place in the Class 2A District 14, ahead of University School and Cardinal Gibbons, with three wins, no losses, and a tie. Not only have they played wonderfully in the district, but the girls are also off to a 5-1-2 start overall.
This past week, Pine Crest took over when they played Somerset Academy and Melbourne Central Catholic, winning both games 5-0. In the game against Somerset, sophomores led the way. Both Autumn Clark and Jordyn Elliott each had two goals, while Shelby Levine added another goal. Not only have the Panthers been putting away games with their numerous goals, but also goalie Sophia Danielson has had four shutouts so far throughout the season. Junior Allie Gershman commented, “I’m really proud of our team and how well we’ve been playing. It’s been fun so far and I can’t wait to continue playing.”
This year, the team is led by senior captains Christina Sofianos and Jennifer deFaria. Having played at the Varsity level for the past three years, these two athletes are ready to continue on with Panther domination. Though the team lost last year in a heartbreaker during Districts, the Panthers plan on moving up to take it all and make their mark. DeFaria said, “I think we’re going to be really good this year and hopefully win districts.” With a strong team on both the offensive and defensive side, they should be able to do it.
Next week, the girls are away on Tuesday the 19th but will be back home for a match against Coral Springs Charter on Thursday at 7 o’clock. Come out to support the Lady Panthers because they are on the prowess and ready to roar!
