On Veteran’s Day, Pine Crest students and faculty gathered at the flagpole to honor those who have fought in the American armed forces. There were multiple speakers who reflected on the meaning of the national holiday and what it meant to them .
The first speaker was veteran and Pine Crest parent, Lieutenant Coronal Tim Cox. He discussed the time that he spent fighting for our country in the Iraq War. Following his speech, the Pine Crest Singers, who performed several numbers during the ceremony, sang “America, the Beautiful.” After, Pine Crest Swim Coach and veteran, Jay Fitzgerald, discussed the war he fought in and urged PC students of the importance of serving in the armed forces.
The American Legion Post #222 Color Guard attended the ceremony as well and presented the flag. Paul Flanagan, a member of Post #222 said, “We really enjoy going to schools and seeing the kids. It really means a lot to us.”
The memorial concluded with the Pine Crest Band playing “Military Taps” as the class presidents presented a wreath honoring the veterans. The ceremony was a wonderful way to honor the men and women who have fought for our country.
