Mock ACT Testing Returns to Pine Crest

On Friday November 18, eight A.M. to twelve P.M., Pine Crest sponsored a mock ACT test which took place in on campus in Stacy Auditorium. The test is distributed and proctored by the national prep course organization, Revolution Prep. This is the second time that Pine Crest has given the ACT, absolutely free, on school grounds.

For juniors or seniors who gave up their Monday nights and Saturday mornings during the first two months of school, they know what this program is. Revolution Prep is a national prep program whose goal is to “transform education and provide the highest quality instruction to all students, regardless of their ability to pay.” Earlier this year, Revolution Prep did a two month PSAT/SAT prep course on campus for juniors and seniors which marks the first time that Pine Crest has partnered with Revolution prep to help students. Revolution Prep also helps with a variety of other testing prep such as AP testing while also offering private tutoring sessions for students in need of help for any subject.

While both ACT and the SAT are similar in many ways, they are also different in some ways as well. The SAT is made up of math, critical reading, and writing sections while the ACT includes English, science, and an optional writing section.  One of the main differences is in the scoring, where the SAT grades each section on a 200-800 point scale with 2400 points total while for the ACT each section is scored on a 1-36 scale and all scores are averaged together with the highest possible being 36 points total for all sections. Students can also choose which section scores colleges can see for the ACT while colleges require that all scores from the SAT get shown.

The ACT can be an important part of any college application, so Pine Crest College Counseling encouraged students to participate in the Mock ACT testing. With results worthy of any Pine Crest last year, the College Counseling department is anticipating another Mock ACT next year.
