Anxiously watching the clock for the bell to sound, students dash for a place on line at the Student Store for that little slice of heaven…in the shape of a cookie. The current obsession with Otis Spunkmeyer cookies has been multiplying throughout students of all ages, and even the teachers at Pine Crest. In between classes and during free periods, lines of mouth-watering students extend into the blazing heat for that freshly baked goodness to satisfy their hunger. Freshman Jason Meisel exclaimed, “They’re cookielicious, like a melt in the mouth sensation,” while savoring every morsel left of the whole cookie he received just seconds before.
From Peanut Butter, to the high-in-demand Chocolate Chunk, the various types of cookies all possess an incredible quality that even freshman Jamie Zipper could not put words to. Unfortunately, the supply of the Spunkmeyer cookies clears out at the end of the day and Maryellen State, the working wheel behind the Student Store counter, states that about 350 students come by each day, most seeking one, two, or even three cookies in a single purchase. Other students have said how their obsession with the Student Store cookies is overwhelming and that they are sad to have to limit themselves to only one cookie a day…how tragic.
But a true fanatic of these cookies would have to be senior and varsity swimmer, Kent Haeffner, who explains, “The Student Store cookies are like a little slice of heaven that have been transported from Maryellen’s oven into your mouth. They melt there like some kind of butter that’s so sweet and delicious that you can’t even explain it with words. Every time you eat a cookie you just want to go up and hug someone, you feel so good about yourself. Even after you’re done eating the cookie, you have little bits of warm chocolatey goodness to lick off your fingers. It’s an experience that every single person on this planet should feel before they die.” Well, I guess all swimmers should eat some of these cookies next time they want to knock some seconds off their time.
