Every year PC’s multicultural clubs organize dances that represent the culture of the country. The performances are presented to the entire school during the special Multicultural Assembly–an honored PC tradition.
This year was a little different. On April 11th, at the end of the day, all the clubs had different tables in front of the Student Union selling foods that represented their countries. There were many options such as croissants in the French club table, arepas in the Spanish club table and frozen yogurt provided by PCCF, which was on the United States’ table. The idea was to bring students together to not only show their culture through the dances but through the typical foods of these countries.
At the actual assembly, students from the Spanish club, Asian club, BSA, Hip Hop and Indian Heritage Club had very entertaining and diverse dances. Spanish had some merengue and reggaeton with their dance choreographed by Raquel Zerbib. The Asian club started with a traditional dance and turned into a more modern performance with the well-known Gangnam Style dance. To everyone’s surprise, Andy Wang asked Laura Herman to prom while he danced with his fellow Asian Club members. BSA had a very emotional dance. They started telling the story of Trayvon Martin and paid respect to him. The members of BSA introduced their dance by discussing prejudice and racism and how people should not be judged by their race but instead by their character. The Indian Heritage Club, the all time favorite by the students, danced bhangra to traditional heritage music as well as some Indian techno; it was an incredible performance another year strong.
All of the performances were amazing and everyone really enjoyed seeing them. It is remarkable how students at Pine Crest are so talented. Hopefully, the multicultural assembly will always remain a tradition for many years to come.
