Mostly Classical is a unique opportunity for students to showcase their theatrical talents. Even if the students are not a member of the fine arts department, they were welcomed and encouraged to perform in the show. This year, there was a great turnout; students, families, and faculty attended this spectacular event to support the performers. The students were required to audition in December, and about twelve dancers, singers, actors, and musicians were selected to perform their pieces. Senior Lauren Celentano played a beautiful rendition of “Sarabande” from the first Bach cello suite. Lauren spent a great amount of time practicing her piece for the show. Freshman Hayley Tartell played the piano piece “Alla Tarantella.” Furthermore, there was also a variety of dances from modern to ballet. Alyssa Frantz, a junior, danced the “Gamzatti” variation from La Bayadere. She learned the piece over the summer at her dance studio. Since she is not involved in the school dance program, Alyssa says, “I think my favorite part about Mostly Classical was that people from school could see me dance for the first time and see where my time is spent when I say, ‘Sorry, I can’t tonight; I have dance.’”
After the show, there was a dessert reception in the cafeteria. Friends and family congratulated the performers, while eating delicious desserts. Junior Brooke Wayne said that she “was really shocked with how talented everyone is and it was definitely worth going to.” The rest of the audience also seemed to enjoy this wonderful opportunity to see fellow students’ talents at this year’s Mostly Classical performance.
