Starting with a dance choreographed by Charly Moretto and Emily Slatkow to Macklemore’s “10,000 Hours“ and finishing with a bang, a finale set to Imagine Dragon’s “Radioactive,” the members of Dance Etc. performed their last show of the year last week.
For seniors Giorgi Mombach, Emily Slatkow, and Lauren Cagnetta, the show was a bittersweet experience. When asked what her favorite dance was from this performance, Emily commented there was such a variety of different dances in the last show that it is impossible to choose just one. Considering that the music alone ranged from slow piano in one to dubstep in another, it was definitely an interesting mix.
The show consisted mainly of dances choreographed by members of Dance Etc., such as Laura Herman and Megan O’Brien, with another by guest choreographer, sophomore Gabby Izakhoff. However, the three seniors decided to ask Mrs. Gooden to choreograph their senior piece, set to “Gravity” by Sarah Barielles, which reflected the sentimental feeling of a last performance.
Although being a part of Dance Etc. meant late night practices every Thursday and sometimes last-minute rehearsals, the dancers all agree that it was all worth it. In the words of senior Giorgi Mombach, “Deciding to do Dance Etc. gave us the opportunity to express ourselves through dance.”
