This February marked the start of the annual Boston Model Congress Trip. Many students enjoy debating and expressing creative ideas which is why posing as a model delegate in Model Congress is a spectacular opportunity. Students all over America travel hours to participate in this world renowned event. One of the heads of Model Congress since starting it in 2017, Mr. Gratwick, tells us more regarding this trip, “Model Congress gives students the opportunity to write policy bills and make political deals with kids they have only just met. It’s a real life skill.”
Each student is assigned a delegate and spends time beforehand researching their roles to prepare for conferences. Over the course of three days, there were several hour conferences and debates. There were many different houses students had the opportunity to be placed in and debated specifically on world issues assigned to them by the Boston Model Congress. Once the delegates take time to speak openly and share opinions on one problem, they craft bills articulating their solutions that they believe are effective, while collaborating with their peers.
One of our very own PC Panthers, Katelyn Rosado, received one of the most prestigious accomplishments of the entire conference: Best Delegate. Katelyn gives a helpful tip to her readers, “I love writing and giving impromptu speeches. This might sound weird, but I hate when speeches and ideas are overly scripted because the speaker doesn’t sound real or engaged at all. I prefer to jot down a few notes of what I think my representative would want to project as well as some points others have said that I might want to refute, then I let my creativity lead.” Model Congress grows more exciting and successful each year, so we hope to see you on the next trip!
