During the weekend of March 2nd, the Social Entrepreneurship Program students set forth to compete in California for the Diamond Challenge Pitch Event, where they showcased their innovative products and services. Students competed against teams from the West Coast and Silicon Valley and strived to secure a spot at the Global Summit. Five of Pine Crest’s teams qualified and participated in this competition, bringing their innovative solutions to real-world problems with them.
DeCarb, made by Logan Schwedelson ‘26, Eshaan Atreya ‘26, JoJo Henry ‘26, and Hunter Gittlin ‘26, brought home a first-place prize, locking in their spot to compete among the top 50 teams worldwide at the Global Summit in April. DeCarb offers automobile manufacturers a greener and more affordable catalytic converter option, aiming to mitigate CO2 emissions. Taking home the second-place award, StyroStick, developed by Sophie Partin ‘24, Anaya Shintre ‘24, and Gabriela Guimaraes ‘24, is a product that produces craft glue through solvent-based recycling of styrofoam waste.
Through developing innovative solutions to prevalent issues within society and/or the environment, practicing pitches and presentations, and working hard for months leading up the competition, Social Entrepreneurship students gained knowledge of the entrepreneurial world while also participating in an unforgettable experience. Sydney Silverstein ‘26 said, “Diamond Challenge was such a cool experience that taught me so many skills on how to become a better presenter and inspired me to want to make a difference.” After working hard for months leading up to the competition and watching their efforts pay off, students of this program are proud to bring home impressive awards along with memorable learning experiences.
