Thespians State Festival
Last week, starting on Wednesday, March 15th, 12 Upper School Thespians traveled to Tampa to represent troupe 4483 at the Florida Thespians State Festival. When they weren’t competing with their pieces, students participated in a multitude of workshops, including, but not limited to dancing, singing, acting, and tech workshops. These workshops were conducted by talented and successful performers, such as Kerry Butler, who performed in Beetlejuice, Mean Girls, and Hairspray, among other shows.
“The States Thespians trip is always so much fun,” said Eva Weiner ‘25, who competed with her solo musical and in the large group musical. “I loved meeting new people, performing, and going to workshops,” Weiner said.
The pieces that went to the state competition were all first performed at the District 7 competition in December and received ratings high enough to bring them to Tampa. Members of the troupe perform their pieces in front of three judges, who rate the performances on a scale from poor to superior. The troupe came home with four superiors, including a couple of perfect scores, and two excellents. One of these superiors was awarded to the ensemble piece Beauty School Dropout, which was first featured in Pine Crest’s production of Grease earlier this school year.
Troupe 4483 would like to give a special thank you to troupe director Ms. Barry, and chaperone Dr. Whitted for doing everything to make their time in Tampa extra special. Congratulations to everyone who competed!
