Judge Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court on October 6 after a hearing that lasted over a month and testimony from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who accused him of sexual assault.

Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing began on September 4. During the hearing he went through typical protocol, answering questions from various senators, a Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting survivor, and a woman with cerebral palsy.

On September 17, Dr. Ford accused Judge Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her in 1982. According to her, he forced himself on her and tried to take off her clothes. During her official testimony, she said she came out with these allegations because she believed it was her “civic duty.”

After Dr. Ford’s allegations, three more women came forward with accusations. On September 23, Deborah Ramirez accused Judge Kavanaugh of exposing himself to her without consent. Then, on September 26, Julie Swetnick accused Brett Kavanaugh of waiting to take a turn on an unconscious woman at a party. The same day, Senator Cory Gardner of Colorado received an anonymous letter in which a woman stated that her daughter witnessed a drunk Judge Kavanaugh push a woman against a wall.

Although these allegations slowed down his confirmation process, the Senate confirmed Justice Kavanaugh in a near complete party line vote of 50 to 48.
