Boys’ Lacrosse Off to a Hot Start
The boys’ lacrosse season is underway, and Pine Crest has gotten off to a blistering hot start. The team currently has an outstanding record of 6-1, and they have dominated the competition up to this point, winning several games by double digits.
The team now will look to parlay their initial victories into a successful season. This team is certainly poised to accomplish great things during this year of lacrosse.
Senior Nick Pagano, a midfielder, agrees that the season has started well.
“This season has been going great,” he said. “We started off strong and are continuing to build and grow as the season progresses.”
The team has started off with plenty of victories. They have easily defeated schools such as Dwyer, North Broward Prep, Coral Springs, Calvary Christian Academy, Coral Spring Charter, and Cardinal Gibbons. Their lone one-point loss came in their last game by the hands of Belen Jesuit. They truly have played excellent lacrosse thus far. Nick Pagano also spoke about how the players plan to prepare for the rest of this season.
He explained, “We will prepare for the rest of the season by practicing, watching film, and scouting other teams. We are continuing to learn and build team chemistry, and it seems to be working.”
Pagano believes this team has the potential to be great. “Our goal for the rest of the season is to take it game by game and keep pushing as far as possible with this great group of lacrosse players we have this year. We have a resilient team and have players coming of injuries which will only make us better.”
Like Nick, Coach George Harris believes that the team can reach great heights. On the team’s goals, he remarked, “to continue to strive for excellence, learn the game, play smarter mentally and physically, and win our district.”
However, Coach Harris knows that success cannot come without hard work.
“We are continually working hard to fix our team weaknesses, while improving upon our team strengths in our practices,” he said. “We have an extremely challenging stretch of games coming up over this next week, so preparation and attention to detail are essential for team success.”
A challenging stretch of games for the Panthers continues this week, when they return home to face off in an emotional match-up against Stoneman Douglas tonight. Though rivals on the field, Pine Crest and Douglas have been working together off the field. The Panthers will then continue their home stand, taking on Coral Glades on March 21st and Archbishop McCarthy on March 22nd.
Those games and onward will hopefully continue a hot start to the season for the Pine Crest lacrosse team. With determination and dedication, this talented team can really thrive and achieve their goals.
