On February 14th, Nicholas Sparks’ book Safe Haven hit theaters for everyone to see. According to Rotten Tomatoes, only 14% of critics liked the movie, yet 71% of the audience enjoyed the performance by Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough. Evidently, critics and audiences had different feelings about the film. This suspense-packed romantic drama is about a young woman (Hough) running away from her alcoholic husband; along the way, she discovers a little town that could potentially be her “safe haven.”There she forms a relationship with a widowed shop-owner (Duhamel) and his two kids. During her journey, she befriends a mysterious neighbor who never seems to be out in public. As she finally starts to feel at home, there is a dramatic turn of events that will keep the audience on the edge of its seat. Throughout her stay in this small town she discovers the true meaning of love and sacrifice. This romantic thriller will bring tears to your eyes at some moments, but will give you chills at others. Safe Haven’s story-line lives up to Sparks’ reputation for good plot twists and delivers an unexpected ending .
