Welcome to Politix

Let’s talk about politics.

As a journalist, covering a breaking story with massive political implications can be tricky. After all, the role of a good journalist is to report news, not opinions. Keeping my own thoughts out of a news story is no easy feat, especially given the current political climate. Although I am happy that we have plenty of reliable news sources, I also think that opinions and beliefs are important to share.

My dad once told me that if I want to change what is happening in the world, “do not be speechless.” He told me that using my voice and having informed conversations about controversial topics accomplished much more than sitting in front of a TV screen yelling at the newest headline.

So, welcome to Politix. This blog will explore my musings and thoughts on the world today and what I think we should be doing to ensure a better future. I acknowledge that many of the topics I will be discussing are controversial, which means that they have no definite correct answer or solution. That being said, I will try to put forward what I think are the best solutions to these open-ended questions.

Now you are likely wondering, where do I fall on the political spectrum? Truth be told, I have beliefs that fall on both sides of the aisle, but I will not divulge them now. I am a registered Democrat, but for all intents and purposes, consider me a moderate one. My positions and opinions stem from a need to be informed and to fully understand a situation before judging it. I would rather say that I do not know enough about an issue to debate it, than plunge headfirst without knowing the facts. The more I know about a topic, the more I want to seek out a debate.

Last but not least, I would like to address the fact that a political discussion can turn ugly if it becomes personal. I try my hardest to keep my personal life and my political ideas far away from each other, though sometimes I really cannot resist a good Trump joke. Politix will be the blend of both. Fair warning: this blog will try to convince you one way or another. It is not a news source because it will be biased. But whether you agree or disagree with me, I think it is invaluable to hear other people’s viewpoints as well as your own. I’ll try not to bore you, but then again, when are politics ever boring?
