The first day of the first annual PC Winter Carnival ended with the Winter Concert, an outdoor event held at the “sacrifice circle.” The concert was a huge success, with many students and faculty members bringing their blankets and lawn chairs to sit on the grassy quad, listening to many of their favorite student acts from the earlier Playing for Change concert. Sophomore Julia Sabra was instrumental in organizing the Winter Concert, collaborating with emcees Adam Weiss and Jonathan Bell, and spreading enthusiasm about the event; all proceeds from which went to a special-needs preschool for children with cerebral palsy.
Says Julia of the event, “I am so pleased with how the concert turned out. We were unsure about how it would go at first, considering it was a new event at the school. But everyone involved worked so hard to pull together a great show, and it seemed that the audience really loved it! We raised over $700 for the preschool, and we are so thrilled because it really will make a difference.” The concert featured acts such as freshman Sarah Gale singing a mash-up of OMG and “Where Is the Love,” by the Black Eyed Peas, some original compositions by Lizzie Sider and Alexis Kesselman, and a mellower rendition of “Wild Ones” by senior Maya Bakhai. The finale of the winter concert was a cover of the Dave Matthews Band song, “All Along the Watchtower” by a band including seniors Noah Saltzman, Nick Schaffer, Daniel Samuel, and Peter Roberts. With solos by each of the musicians and strong vocals from Nick, everyone was on their feet cheering by the end, finishing the Winter Concert on a high note.
