New and Returning TV Shows to Watch This Season
While most Floridians may not get to enjoy colder temperatures or changing foliage this fall, they can certainly peruse the variety of new and returning television shows premiering in the next few months. Here are some of the highlights of TV show returns that everyone has been anxiously awaiting.
Grey’s Anatomy
- The classic medical drama is back: Grey’s Anatomy’s 14th season returned to ABC on September 28th. This series follows the lives of surgical interns and doctors as they further their careers and attempt to forge meaningful personal connections. This new season started off with a two-hour premiere, revealing the answers to some serious cliffhangers, introductions to new characters, and more bewildering surgeries. As fans continue to follow Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and her peers through the wings of the hospital and their crazy lives, director Shonda Rhimes continues to surprise them.
The Gifted
- Released on October 2, 2017 on Fox, The Gifted follows a typical suburban couple for whom things begin to go awry when their children develop incredible abilities. Part of Marvel’s X-Men franchise, this series is considered a strong start to a different X-Men Universe.
Fresh Off the Boat
- Widely praised for its candid and humorous depiction of the Asian American immigrant experience, Fresh off the Boat chronicles the life of American-born Eddie Huang as he navigates between his idea of the American Dream and his family’s traditional values. This sitcom returned to ABC for its fourth season on October 3, 2017.
Scandal
- Scandal, a fan-favorite show starring Kerry Washington as crisis manager Olivia Pope, returned to ABC on October 5, 2017. This political thriller is approaching its end as the seventh season released, making this the last season premiere of the hit show. Just like all its other season premieres and episodes, this episode of Scandal was full of political intrigue and personal entanglements.
The Walking Dead
- Coming up on October 22, 2017, season 8 of The Walking Dead will be released on AMC. The action-packed series returns to examine the lives of a group of seasoned, but weary zombie apocalypse survivors.
Stranger Things
- Following the release of its incredibly popular first season last year, Stranger Things garnered praise for its talented cast and skillful combination of the mundane and the supernatural. Fans have speculated extensively about the show’s second season, which will release on Netflix on October 27, 2017; several new characters will make appearances along with the originals like Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder), Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), and more.
These TV shows are just some of the many popular, spectacular shows Pine Crest students and faculty watch whenever they get a chance. Junior Shayne Pollock remarked, “Watching TV is my favorite way to relax after I finish all my work and activities. I personally love drama and sitcoms.” There are plenty of new dramas and sitcoms to watch this season, as well as a variety of other genres, as networks start releasing new episodes. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy fall’s must watch TV shows.
