There has recently been a lot of controversy regarding an event that has taken place annually at Pine Crest for many years – the Multicultural. As most of you probably already know, Multicultural is an assembly that occurs in the springtime at the Pine where all of the culturally affiliated clubs dig deep into their heritage and expose different traditional dances they have prepared. Each of the clubs, including: BSA, French Club, Spanish Club, Indian Heritage Club, Asian Club, Hip Hop, GSA, and German Club take many hours out of their busy schedules to practice and perfect these dances.
Each of the clubs have been preparing their dances and getting ready to rock the stage. I spoke to the vice president of Asian Club, Mellissa Chang, who said, “We are trying to incorporate traditional Asian culture with modern Asian culture. There are so many different aspects of the our culture and we are trying to represent all of them. We hope you enjoy the show!” I also got a chance to speak with the event coordinator of French Club, Carolina Soto, stating, “We would like enrich our fellow students with the French culture, that was the primary producer of dance as a performing art. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but there will be a traditional French ballet piece and just maybe a cancan.”
This year there was a bit of confusion regarding when the assembly will be taking place. The assembly was originally scheduled to happen on February 1, but due to some scheduling complications, it has now been moved to April 11. Having the assembly at this time will allow each of the clubs to have additional preparation time for their dances and each of their members to perform in a well put together multicultural event.
Overall, it is safe to say we have a lot to look forward to for the multicultural assembly. Each of the clubs have been hard at work choreographing the dances and arranging times for their members to practice and master the rigorous steps. A big thank you goes out to Senora Zingg for making this event possible. Great job to all of the clubs that are participating; break a leg!
