Club Spotlight: The Board Games Club

Who would have guessed that the Student Council Facebook page would help spawn the newest student club at Pine Crest? From one post, the word of the currently-under-formation Board Games Club hit the school lightning fast, and by the next morning, everyone seemed to know about it.

Surely, the club’s founder, PC junior Byrne Hollander, didn’t expect the immediate interest and success. “I just told a few friends about it and I posted something on the Student Council Facebook,” he says, “My friends are I love playing board games, and we’re sure everyone else did, too.” Byrne was definitely right that everyone else did too – after the initial posting, the Board Games Club spawned an exclusive Facebook group with over sixty members from our PC community, complete with t-shirt designs that are ready to be ordered.

“It’s a great way to meet new friends at Pine Crest,” adds Byrne, “We’ll probably meet about twice a month after school.” Byrne insists the Club won’t have a focus on one or two board games. “We won’t focus on one in particular because we want to see how many new board games we can experience this year,” he states, excited to add more games to his repertoire, even though his personal favorites are Monopoly and Bananagrams.

For those of you who are on the lookout for a fundraiser, expect some soon. The club is looking to add some board games to have of their own on campus instead of bringing sets to the meeting, and if they don’t, they are on the lookout for a charity to donate funds to and plan on having a vote in the near future once Student Council gives Byrne and his Facebook recruits the “OK” to proceed.
