Movie Review: Pitch Perfect
Clever, saucy, entertaining, and outright hilarious, Pitch Perfect is the must see comedy of the season. I know after seeing the trailers, a majority of people thought: “Another musical movie… I thought we were over High School Musical?” However, they thought wrong, because Pitch Perfect is able to bring a twist to a storyline that has been repeated countless times. Taking place in Barden College, it centers on freshmen student Beca joining the competitive college a cappella scene. The movie’s backstory is not pulled out of nowhere; college a cappella is a huge phenomenon right now, making the movie not only witty and entertaining but relevant as well. Pitch Perfect’s plot is definitely predictable, but its catchy music and witty lines make up for what may seem like the routine plot. The character “Fat Amy,” played flawlessly by Rebel Wilson, takes what could have been a pointless and boring movie and completely transforms it into the kind of movie where you have tears streaming down your cheeks from laughing too hard. Her lines are sharp and amusing, often filled with crude humor that will keep you wanting more. Pitch Perfect also has captivating music to offer, that will surely get stuck in your head and you will only want to keep hearing. With a cappella renditions of songs such as “Since U Been Gone” and “Don’t Stop the Music” and even a few mashups we just can’t get enough, Pitch Perfect was able to create a movie based on music that you will no doubt be completely obsessed with.
