Homecoming week is finally here! From togas to tutus, over the course of this week students showed their school spirit by dressing up from Tuesday to Friday according to the day’s theme, with categories pertaining specifically to each grade.  This year, homecoming got an exciting two day extension due to the hard work of Student Council President Yani Fabre and all members of Student Council.  He fulfilled his election promise and told us, “I worked extensively with administration to give the students the best homecoming week possible, and administration was very willing to help me achieve that goal.”  It was a week full of excitement, spirit, and some really great costumes.

Tuesday’s theme was eras, correlating to different time periods. Each grade was given an era to represent: the freshmen were futuristic, the sophomores were Roman/Greek, the juniors were cavemen, and the seniors were hippies.  Freshmen sported black and sparkly clothing with alien antennas. Sophomores interpreted the meaning of Greek and Romans different ways: some showed their spirit in togas and gold accessories, while others took the “Greek life” approach, in which they wore fraternity and sorority embroidered shirts, Vineyard Vines, and Sperrys. The juniors showed their spirit by emulating the popular TV show The Flintstones, while others wore cheetah-printed togas and carried around clubs.  Finally, the seniors played it chill by showing off their tie-dye, peace signs and bell-bottom jeans in an ever-so hippie fashion.  They even hung their own hammocks to give them that true hippie feel.

Next up was Disney day for Wednesday’s theme. Each class let out their inner child by showing off their Disney obsessions with each class obtaining a different Disney category: the freshmen as cartoons, sophomores as animals, juniors as villains, and seniors as royalty. Although the categories had some overlap, each grade really made its theme its own.  Countless freshmen and sophomores wore onesies, displaying their characters with animal ears and tails or cartoon-like accessories, depending on the grade. Juniors showed their malevolent ways in dark clothing, capes, and all-around evil attire. Not only PC royalty but Disney royalty as well, the seniors dressed as their favorite prince or princesses, with crowns and tutus galore.

Thursday was the most anticipated and probably most spirited day of homecoming: class color day.  Each class decked out their wardrobe in their assigned class color: freshmen as yellow, sophomores as red, juniors as blue, and seniors as orange and black.  Students went all out wearing tutus, face paint, and anything else they could think of to represent their class.  Students could really taste the rainbow of PC on Thursday.

Students really took control of these dress-up days with creativity and spirit. After enjoying his very first Upper School Homecoming, Freshmen David Radvany-Roth stated, “I really liked the relaxed environment surrounding the homecoming festivities.” While David still has three more years to show off his PC spirit, the seniors were both sad and thrilled to take charge as the leaders of the school for their last homecoming. Senior Bianca Tedesco immensely enjoyed her last PC Homecoming; she shared, “I loved getting into the school spirit this past week and winning the spirit stick!”

On the final day of the week, students were to wear green and white to show their overall school spirit. Whether it was a newly bought shirt from the Spirit Store, sports’ team apparel, or just a vintage PC tee, all students and teachers came together as a united group to present their Panther Pride before the big game that night. Walking around campus this week truly showed the students’ love for the Pine.
