Summer 2012: A Summer to Remember
Fall is in the air, and we are back to five day weeks filled with countless hours of homework, projects, and tests. During my very little down time from work, I was just thinking about Summer 2012 and reminiscing a bit. PC took the world by storm this year as students reached all parts of the country and various parts of the globe. From just chilling out on the sunny beaches in South Florida, to Southeast Asia, and everywhere in between, we were all over.
Many students spent their time kicking it back at sleep away camps up north such as Camp Highlander, Avoda, Manatou, Mataponi, Skylemar, and more. Others experienced college life taking various classes as students visited campuses and joined the summer programs of Harvard, Brown, Michigan, and UCLA. Some students even took it to the next level, interning in various research labs trying to solve cures for various diseases, or just continuing their own personal research on the campuses of UF and HIM (Harvard Institute of Medicine).
In addition to students learning in the classroom or lab, some expanded their outdoor minds in the wild as they went on adventure/wilderness programs out west. Other students took the vacation to perfect their fine arts skills as some dancers went to dance camps all over the country. Marissa Hecker even toured as Cinderella in a Broward County production company. Others went abroad, such as Jeannine Sheinberg, who interned for a fashion company all the way in London. Sabrina Udwin went on “the most amazing trip” as she biked over 300 miles through The Netherlands, Belgium, and France with the company Bold Earth. Finally, I went on an incredible month long adventure/service trip in Thailand training elephants, building Thai schools, white water rafting, visiting Buddhist monasteries, and SCUBA diving through the company Adventures Cross Country.
Well PC students definitely did a great job filling in the two month gap between school years. Although it will be hard to beat, let’s see if next year Summer 2013 can beat an epic Summer 2012. If for nothing else, our summers have left us with good memories to look back on and something to look forward too, as we get back to hitting the books.
