Two months into 2015 and numerous trends are already arising. Not only are fresh new fashion trends surfacing from New York Fashion Week recently, but also copious new food trends are making their mark in the food world! Ranging from outrageously mouth-watering treats to dishes with fantastic health benefits, here are ten foods definitely worth trying this year.
1. Cronuts. The infamous doughnut and croissant medley is still on a strong selling streak thanks to creator Dominique Ansel. His bakery in New York City continues to have lines out the door each morning with customers hungry for the doughnut shaped, yet crispy, flaky croissant treat. They are sold for five dollars each at Dominique Ansel’s bakery, however you can make them yourself (if you have time, patience, and lots of butter).

2. Acai Bowls. Many people have “eat heathy” as one of their new year’s resolutions, and acai bowls are the perfect breakfast meal or daily snack to help you maintain your healthy lifestyle. Acai is a delicious tropical berry and when created into an “acai bowl,” it consists of the berry blended into a thick smoothie that tastes and even looks like ice cream, but it is not unhealthy. Eating an acai bowl will satiate your sweet tooth and keep you full for hours. The nutritious bowl can be topped with ingredients, such as fresh-cut fruit, chia seeds, honey, granola, nuts, and more. They are not the quickest things to make, but you can usually find them in about any juice place.
3. Ben and Jerry’s Cores. An innovative twist on the classic dessert has created quite the buzz. The visionaries of the Cores figured out a way to pack in two original flavors such as chocolate and caramel, and complement them with a dreamy fudge, caramel, or raspberry jam center. Now instead of just purely enjoying Ben and Jerry’s original ice cream flavors, you can devour a multitude of tastes in just one pint! The five Cores include Hazed & Confused, Karamel Sutra, Peanut Butter Fudge, Salted Caramel, and That’s My Jam.
4. Matcha Tea. Goodbye espressos, hello matcha tea. Drinking tea rather than sugary drinks is a nice choice to stay on the healthy route, but drinking matcha tea has more benefits than just saving calories. Matcha tea is a powerful disease fighter: studies have shown that it helps prevent cancer, reduces your chances of catching the flu, and boosts your over all immune system. Matcha tea is becoming more favorable than coffee because it awakes your mind without the caffeine crash later. Urth Caffe in Los Angeles, California, serves the healthy beverage in several forms – espressos, lattes, and milkshakes.
5. Ramen Burgers. Wondering which food hybrids actually work? A juicy burger may not seem appetizing when wedged in between two buns made out of ramen, however, many people actually find this unique mix to be delicious! Just imagining the calorie count of this combination is nerve-wracking, but it cannot be worse than the doughnut burger hybrid.
6. Frozen S’mores. Yes, another hybrid! Dominique Ansel, the Cronut creator, also came up with this frozen treat that involves a s’more with vanilla ice cream inside. The ice cream is coated with a chocolate-cookie texture and then enclosed with fluffy marshmallow. The outside of the s’more is torched to get a hot, crunchy surface. This hot and cold fusion sounds inviting! Frozen s’mores must be consumed immediately before they melt.
7. Fancy Doughnuts. Goodbye to the simple Krispy Kreme glaze, and hello to eccentric doughnut flavors. Some of these fancy flavors include maple bacon, bourbon salted caramel, apple fritter, and even cereal-inspired doughnuts. These specialty doughnuts have undeniably changed the doughnut industry for the better. California Donuts in Los Angeles, California, is killing the fancy doughnut game, selling doughnuts decorated as pandas and much more! Two local doughnut shops that also sell unique, gourmet doughnuts are Dandee Donuts in Pompano Beach and Mojo Doughnuts in Hollywood.

8. Avocado Toast. It is quickly becoming a popular menu item, especially for brunch. Surprisingly, just a plain piece of toast and smashed avocado can be such a filling and satisfying meal. There are several different ways that restaurants serve this trending toast, whether it has an egg on top, smoked salmon, or just the simple avocado. No matter what, it is pretty self explanatory and can be made at home by anyone.
9. Nitrogen Ice Cream. Frozen yogurt is so last year. Liquid nitrogen is superior to all other frozen treats and just cool (literally) to eat. Nitrogen ice cream has a thicker consistency than regular ice cream because the nitrogen causes the ice crystals to shrink and become more compact, decreasing the amount of whipped, air space, creating a smother and fresher ice cream. At Chill-N in South Florida, ice cream scientist, Danny Golik, allows customers to create their own ice cream equations. For example, “Nt+Mb+Kk” is nutella ice cream with mixed berries and Kit Kat.
10. Bing Bread. Bing bread is a wheat flour-based Chinese food in a disk-like shape resembling a pancake or crepe, but not as thin. Often the bread is filled with potato, crispy bacon, or creamy cheddar cheese, and topped with sesame seeds. A restaurant in Chicago called Parachute serves bing bread fried in a cast-iron skillet. Diners usually enjoy smearing sour cream butter on it. This potato bread sounds delectable.
These incredibly popular foods have been booming throughout the food industry right now, and definitely through social media as well. More innovative food combinations and recipes will surely show up in 2015, however, these ten are currently shining. Even though some of these creations are relatively new and hard to find now, they are sure to rapidly spread to more commercial restaurants and bakeries, so keep an eye out for them! Which of these ten foods do you want to try?
