Bounce Back
After a promising start to the lacrosse season, the Panthers fell hard against the St. Andrews Scotts 16-4. Held scoreless in the first half, the Panthers managed to get on the board in the third and final period in which the amount of points they scored was irrelevant. However, despite all of this, the Panthers refuse to remain dejected. Looking past the rough loss to St. Andrews this previous week, the boys lacrosse team feels confident that they will be able to regroup and be ready to face their main rival: St. Thomas. While the loss did not affect the team’s standing in the districts it no doubt served as a wake-up call. While in a brutal two-week stretch in which the Panthers face St. Andrews and St. Thomas consecutively, Pine Crest’s best hope is to come out 1-1 now. Sitting at 6-2 however, the team is still in the hunt for a district title after coming so close last year but losing it to none other than St. Thomas. Even though the St. Thomas game is not in the district, the matchup will not have lost any of its weight from previous years. Junior Harris Stolzenberg and company will be looking to capitalize on a defense lacking stalwart Chris Selva, better known as “Piglet” while a defense led by senior goalie Nick Greiner and the Diener twins look to clamp down after letting St. Andrews score a season high 16 points on their unit. Due to redistricting, this matchup against the Raiders will be the only one of the season, as the Panthers will not be facing St. Thomas in the post-season. It is looking to be a promising game that will no doubt spark the Panthers to finish out the second half of the season strong, allowing them to enter the post-season with confidence.
