After a week filled with action, the most anticipated Upper School Homecoming tradition finally took place. In Co-Ed Flag Football, the roles reverse allowing the Junior and Senior girls a chance to show Pine Crest their football skills.
“It was so much fun to experience what felt like a high school movie! I loved getting to see everyone hyped up and cheering for both teams. Co-Ed Flag Football has definitely become something I look forward to participating in as a Junior and Senior.” said Liia Gizetdinova ‘27.
The referee officials were Mr. Hannigan, Mr. Schwartz, Mr. Spitzig, and special guest, Mr. Pierson, who returned for his favorite Homecoming activity. It was no shock that students cheered upon his surprise appearance.
The first touchdown was made by a Junior, Isabella Medeiros ‘25, who put them in the lead, but not for long. Soon after, three touchdowns made by Ashley Small ‘24, Lilli Forman ‘24, and Alicia Marzouca ‘24 brought the seniors into halftime with a score of 21-7.
As always, the halftime dances had the crowd sitting on the edge of their seats. The student section grew louder and louder with each act. As soon as the Seniors stepped onto the field, their outfits and wigs made it clear that their Barbie themed cheer would let them take the victory.
“It was that simple, I just became Ken. The orange juice represents the love for the Class of 2024! Let’s go Seniors!” shouted Nathaniel Correa ‘24, who played Ken in the Seniors’ dance.
“This year’s results are surprisingly unexpected,” said Mrs. Rashbaum when announcing the final score: 4th – Freshman, 3rd – Juniors, 2nd – Sophomores, and 1st – Seniors.
Back on the field, Ashley Small ‘24 scored the 4th touchdown for the Seniors. With one minute left on the clock, the boys joined the girls on the field for a last play before celebrating the final win. As expected, the Seniors beat the Juniors with a final score of 28-7.
Once again, the Co-Ed Flag Football Game created a memorable experience for everyone whether on or off the field. With high energy and enthusiasm throughout the student body, it is clear that this tradition continues to be a Pine Crest favorite!
