Here is what Jeffrey had to say about his art when he sat down with Type One this week.
T1: When did you begin to draw?
Jeffrey: I began to draw when I was very little, like every kid who picks up a marker and draws on his mother’s wall. My father taught me a lot of drawing aspects when I was just shy of 10 years old. He taught me how to draw 3D shapes, shadowing, and texture. All important skills if you want to make your drawings pop. Without these important skills grasped early on, I would not be the artist I am today.
T1: Are you taking any art classes this year? If so, what are you most looking forward to in this class?
Jeffrey: I am currently been taking AP 2D Studio Art, and I have taken art every single year out of my 13 school years at Pine Crest. I am looking forward to creating any pieces that contain perspective because I love how that type of artwork plays out.
T1: Are you currently working on anything?
Jeffrey: I just finished a piece with a pirate ship on a map. I wish I could have put more time into it, but still I am extremely happy with how it came out.
T1: Out of all the photos you submitted which is your favorite and why?
Jeffrey: It is so hard to choose a favorite piece because with every one you create you become attached to the piece. If I had to pick, it would be my drawing of the Titanic because I feel that it was my first good piece at a young age of 12.
T1: What do you think is you biggest accomplishment as an artist?
Jeffrey: I think my biggest accomplishment as an artist is that I have confidence in my own art. Art is what you create and what’s important is how you see it, if others view your art and find it beautiful that is a bonus. You shouldn’t be scared what your art teacher thinks or anyone who would judge what you create. Being scared just hinders your ability to create amazing artwork that you want.
T1: Do you have a certain creative process, such as a time of day or place you prefer to work?
I love to work right before I go to sleep when no one is awake. The silence allows for my brain to just wander off to the unknown and create what I have found there. Unfortunately my art class is in the morning, but that is beside the point.
T1: Do you have any favorite artists that you draw inspiration from?
To be honest I do not have a favorite artist. I do, however, enjoy the works of many artists in the architectural field like James McNabb.
