For Pine Crest students, summer is considered a world of possibilities. In addition to attending summer camps or traveling, students also have the opportunity to participate in summer programs, some of which Pine Crest includes on a list of enjoyable and recommended ones in which to take part.
Being involved in a summer program has been regarded as a pivotal experience for Pine Crest students throughout the years. Students further develop their critical thinking skills, social intelligence, and adaptability to a more “real” routine and environment. Ananya Patel ‘27 worked at the Miami State Attorney’s office, which was rigorous, but she felt it “enhanced her interests in law.” Geng Gao ‘28 participated in the University of Michigan Debate program in Ann Arbor, where she learned that “although you should watch what you say, sometimes you regret not saying something over actually just doing it.” She also stated that the program helped her further see the benefit of “making many friends from all over the world.” While the program was demanding, there was still time to enjoy oneself and to “see more of what it was like to be a young individual.” Lastly, Eliana Nitsberg ‘28 participated in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) summer program, which is owned and operated by Columbia University. Eliana said, “[The CSPA program allowed her to] enhance my journalistic writing and prepare me for the year ahead as the spotlights section editor for the PC Paw Print.”
Summer programs allow students the opportunity to be in a more professional environment, as well as specialize in an interest of their choice. Furthermore, the programs include students globally and encourage the formation of long-lasting friendships.
