Type One sat down with Amanda Anderson to talk about her singing career. The Pine Crest senior has enjoyed singing since she was five years old. On campus, you can find Amanda either on the field, playing lacrosse, or on the stage, performing for events such as Playing for Change. Amanda tells Type One what she has learned, why she sings, and more.

T1: How old were you when you started singing? [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
Amanda: I started playing the piano and singing when I was about 4 or 5 years old when my mom put me in a music class and through piano lessons. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
T1: What’s your favorite genre of music/poetry/literature? Why? [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
Amanda: My favorite genre of music would have to be R&B. It’s just really soothing and beautiful, and whether I’m happy, sad, angry, or need to get pumped up, there’s always some R&B song that can fit my mood. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
T1: Who’s your favorite musician? [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
Amanda: My favorite musician is Rihanna. She’s a very talented singer and songwriter. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
T1: What enables you to display passion when you sing? [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
Amanda: I think it’s trying to relate to the words of the song is what allows me to display passion when I sing. I love the music itself and am really passionate about the sound, but it’s the lyrics that will really let me feel a song. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
T1: Why do you enjoy singing? What’s your favorite thing about it? [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
Amanda: I enjoy singing because it takes my mind off of everything else except for the music. I think my favorite thing about singing is how it’s something you can do all the time. You don’t need to have anything else except your body to do it, and it’s something that everyone can do (even if they’re a little off key sometimes). [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
T1: What is your favorite memory with singing? [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
Amanda: My favorite memory with singing was probably when I forgot the lyrics to the second verse of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” when I had the solo in 8th grade. At the time, I freaked out, and I made up the entire second verse, but no one even noticed. It’s kind of a weird favorite memory to have, but I just thought it was cool how everyone just was really into the music and the sound that they didn’t even realize I completely changed the lyrics. T1: What is your favorite quote? [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
Amanda: “Music doesn’t lie. If there’s something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.” – Jimmy Hendrix [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
T1: What is some important knowledge you’ve gained from music? [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
Amanda: I’ve learned to always give all my effort and to put my heart into what I am doing because that is how I will get the most out of what I am doing. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
T1: How will you use music for the rest of your high school/career? [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
Amanda: I plan on singing in the last Playing For Change concert (my last one ever!) and will continue to be in the chorus for the rest of high school. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
T1: What is a goal you have? [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
Amanda: A goal I have is to continue singing in college and hopefully sing in an a capella group there. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
T1: What is your biggest accomplishment? [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
Amanda: My biggest accomplishment is when my little cousin told me she wanted to be a singer just like me. At that moment I realized that I can really inspire people through music. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
T1: What are three words to describe you? [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
Amanda: I am hardworking, dedicated, and selfless. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
T1: What do you hope people will take away from your work? [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
Amanda: I hope that people can take away life lessons from my music and really relate to what I sing and hopefully can use it to get through difficulties in their own life. [spacer height=”10px” id=”2″]
