Our Pine Crest girls’ soccer team picked up this year where they had left off the past couple of years: red hot. After all the hard work in the offseason to prepare for this year, the girls’ team is currently 5-0-1, with a signature victory over last year’s state runner-up, American Heritage Delray. The girls are very excited for the remainder of the season and hope to make a deep playoff push once again.
For the past few seasons, the soccer team has dominated its district. Essentially, the team has had one main competitor, and that’s North Broward Prep. The rivalry has been stirred over the past few seasons. It’s gotten to the point where a season goal is to beat these Eagles. Two seasons ago, the team dropped a 2-1 overtime heartbreaker to NBP in the district finals. Last year, our Panther ladies got a shot at revenge and faced off with North Broward yet again in the district semi-finals. Revenge was to wait for their next face-off though, as PC lost 1-0 to end their season. Senior Jordyn Elliot, a four-year player and two-year captain on the Girls’ Varsity Soccer team commented on the rivalry, “My sophomore year, the loss was very depressing since we beat them [North Broward] earlier in the season. That was our last chance at a district championship and I have a lot of regrets about that game. Last year, I was injured when we played North Broward, and it was hard to watch my team lose to them again.” This year though, something changed. Last week, the Panther ladies thrashed their rival 5-1, making a statement in the district and introducing themselves as a serious threat in the overall scheme of Florida soccer.
On the field, the Lady Panthers are led by a string of senior leaders including Jordyn Elliot, Autumn Clark, Isabelle Turner, and Ryann Clarke among others. This is a veteran squad, so as the season progresses, expect the vast experience of this team to really help the squad through the ups and downs of a championship run.
The girls have eleven regular season games left, and anyone who exists on social media knows just how much the team appreciates the support of their classmates. Over the next month or so, PCFC will endure the bulk of their district schedule including a showdown on December 10th against bitter rival Cardinal Gibbons. With playoff seeding and overall confidence on the line, the Panther girls encourage every single student and teacher to make their way out to the field for games and bring their PC spirit to rile up the opposing teams. Stick with us as the soccer season unfolds and the girls go for a coveted district championship and other postseason glory. Best of luck going forward to the Lady Panthers!
