The 2014-2015 NFL regular season certainly didn’t disappoint with several key story lines. The Dallas Cowboys regained elite status while Tony Romo proved every critic wrong, en route to an MVP-type season, and Demarco Murray established himself as one of the best running backs in the league. After a shaky start, the Patriots continued to dominate with another great season behind Tom Brady. Even the subpar Giants have something to look forward to next year as Odell Beckham Jr. was basically the best receiver in the NFL for the last 12 games of the season. And who can forget the incredibly competitive AFC with four 9-7 teams that missed the playoffs, while on the NFC side, the 10-6 Eagles were forced to watch the Panthers, losing record and all, saunter into the playoffs. But all of that is in the past, with the playoffs being a completely different story. The laughingstock of the postseason turned out to be the surprise of the playoffs, as the Panthers took care of the Cardinals 27-16 in the opening round. However, the following week they traveled to Seattle where Russell Wilson and the deep ball beat them 31-17, ending their Cinderella run. Meanwhile in the other divisional round games, the Packers came from behind to beat the Cowboys 26-21, Peyton Manning lost to his old team, and Tom Brady, Julian Edelman, and Bill Belichick combined to throw for 4 touchdowns in a Patriots win over the Ravens. Now with only 4 teams remaining in the playoffs, the Type One Sportswriters gave their picks on who they thought would win the Super Bowl.

This year, though it’s been a highly competitive NFL Playoffs thus far, the Seattle Seahawks are en route to repeating as Super Bowl Champions. The Legion of Boom in the secondary is a physical and intimidating presence, and as the game goes on, Marshawn Lynch and a dominant offensive line will ware down the opposing defense. Though the Packers are a formidable opponent, they will not be able to possess the ball long enough to keep Russell Wilson and the Seattle offense off the field and more importantly, protect their own defense. Additionally, the Colts and Patriots do not have the personnel on the defensive line to contain Beast Mode and thwart the Hawks’ plans of repeating. Once again, Pete Carroll’s squad will prevail and hoist the Lombardi trophy for a second straight year.

Tom Brady knows how to win. He is the quarterback and leader of the New England Patriots, the team I believe is going to win Super Bowl 49. All season the Patriots have been dominating on offense averaging almost 30 points a game. Their defense is always incredible and I strongly believe these Pats will win. They will be playing against the Seahawks or Packers (if they beat the Colts); though both of those teams are strong with powerhouse offenses, I think the Patriots have the ability to dominate and what it takes to bring home the Lombardi trophy for the first time since the 2004/05 season.
Daniela Gomez, Staff Writer: Green Bay Packers
I think the Green Bay Packers will win the Superbowl because they are very strong offensively. They are also quite healthy with almost no injuries. With these advantages, the Packers will be able to win the Superbowl.
Samantha Gould, Staff Writer: Seattle Seahawks
The two teams that will make it to the Super Bowl this year will be the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks will be victorious due to their powerful defense. They have the most potent defense in the National Football League. The Patriots will not be able to run the ball, creating a pass only offense. The Seattle Seahawk’s secondary is very good and will cause Tom Brady, the New England Patriots’ quarterback, many problems. Although New England’s secondary is also strong, the ability of Seattle’s running back, Marshawn Lynch, to run the football effectively will be the game changer.
Nicole Kone, Staff Writer: Seattle Seahawks
The Patriots will lose to the Seahawks this year in the Super Bowl. The Seahawks have an incredible defense and a driving momentum from their recent win. Also, the Seahawks were in last years’ Super Bowl giving them the experience they need to defeat their fierce opponents. In the past, strong defense has won multiple Super Bowls and this year should be no different. The Seahawks will give up few touchdowns and their remarkable offense will get them the amount of points they need to beat the “Pats.”
Christian Robinson, Staff Writer: Seattle Seahawks
My prediction for Super Bowl XLIX is that the Seattle Seahawks will repeat as Super Bowl champions. I believe they will repeat as champions for three reasons: Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch, and Richard Sherman. The Seahawks have the best all-around game in the NFL, whether beating teams with Wilson’s amazing passing abilities, tiring them out with Lynch’s powerful and energetic playing style, or simply stopping them from scoring with Sherman’s attentive defense. With all these factors, I don’t see any team being able to beat them, and that’s why I foresee them to be the Super Bowl XLIX champions.

This will be Tom Brady’s 6th Super Bowl appearance, which is now an NFL record, and he has a chance to add on to an already impressive legacy by potentially winning a 4th Super Bowl ring. Handling this task won’t be easy though, as he will have to face the Seahawks and their “Legion of Boom” a.k.a. the best secondary in the league, before hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. Wilson and Brady are similar quarterbacks in the sense that they both maximize every ounce of talent from their receivers, and have certainly done so in this season’s playoffs. I see Brady’s arm winning the game for the Patriots, though, as LeGarrette Blount will not be able to handle the number one run defense in the NFL. Russell Wilson has a rare chance to win a second straight Super Bowl in just his third year, however, after the Patriots’ last Super Bowl loss to the Giants, I believe that they simply will not lose two in a row under Coach Belichick.
Only time will tell which team emerges victorious as this year’s Super Bowl champion, but one thing is certain, it will be a previous champion. Will Russell Wilson make history by winning his second Super Bowl in just his third season or will Tom Brady win that coveted 4th ring after a salty Super Bowl loss to the Giants a few years ago. Make sure to tune in to Super Bowl 49 on Sunday, February 1st at 6:30 on NBC to find out.
